12Squared Simple Gifts - Making Toys into Charms

eye hooks... plastic or polymer clay or toy collectibles... some pliers and you're good to go!
This is crazy easier than you think... and often does not require a drill.

I am showing you the absolute simplest method of making your own charms from toys.

you will need:
pliers - I used jewelry pliers but you can use even the kitchen pliers if that's what you have
8mm eye hooks - I ordered mine from lollipopbeadshoppe on Etsy
small plastic toys, collectibles or polymer clay figures - I have purchased mine from many Etsy shops, Target, Amazon... as you can see in my shop and in these pictures, I have many different toys here.

If this is as far as you're going and you're making simple necklaces or bracelets, purse charms or ornaments from your creations you will also need ribbon, jump rings, necklace or bracelet cords etc... this is not the post for these things, please see the charm jewelry post for links to shops and supplies and how-to tips.

As I said... this is insanely easy.

1. Holding the eye screw in your pliers press firmly to the top or side or back of your little toy and begin to screw it in. Really hard items may take a little bit of doing. Legos, for instance, would really rather be drilled and will still work this way if you're patient.

2. Try to keep the screw from wobbling back and forth, just with any other screw, you can strip the hole and cause the eye screw to slip out.

3. You want the hook to be eye open when you face it if you're going to be using a ring to hold the charm on a necklace or bracelet directly. If you will be using a clasp or hook that requires a ring between the charm and itself, you want the eye to be facing the side of the charm.
And that's it! :D Look at how awesome you are!

Shopkins ornaments, window hangers, necklaces! Favorite little toys can be added to ribbons and kept when they are retired, like a charm necklace of the past. Wear them, gift them... or make charm jewelry!
The above bracelet was made by stringing beads, adding rings to metal charms and using eye screws on plastic toys. :D This is listed in my shop and is related to the countdown necklace/bracelet post.
