BOO! 6 Days of Halloween Minis Just In Time! CANDY CORN!!!

Yes, you read right... that's GHOSTS, BATS, OWLS, SKULLS and FLOWERS, PUMPKINS and LEAVES, CANDY CORN and WITCHES HATS, and as always... free when posted here on the 12SquaredCreations blog.
These dolls and many others are listed for sale in my Etsy shop... or you can use these free patterns to make your own.

I designed these patterns to demonstrate the versatility of a single shape with minor changes or simple decorations... All of these dolls begin with a simple ball shape and come out very differently based on what you do with them. The closest to the original shape are the bat and pumpkin, and the farthest is a tie between the ghost and the skull.

Every day this week I will be posting free patterns, beginning today with this awesome fat little bat!

Supplies
Worsted weight yarns in the colors you need - I used Fair Isle Yarn Liberty in custard, tangerine and cloud and a number of other Liberty colors. Actual colors listed with patterns.
**Update: This year I used Herrschners Worsted 8 Halloween Shimmer in ghost, jack-o-lantern and full moon as well as other colors.
4.5mm crochet hook
darning or yarn needle
scissors
12 mm buttons or safety eyes
stitch marker or contrasting yarn to use as a stitch marker
polyfill or other stuffing. mine is always mixed with the yarn cuttings from previous projects

Abbreviations
CH = Chain
MR = Magic Ring
SC = Single Crochet
INC = Increase
DEC = Decrease
BLO = Back Loop Only
F/O = Finish Off
C/C = Change Color
SL ST = Slip Stitch

Notes
You are working in the round, using a stitch marker will really help.

Back Loop Only or BLO means crocheting in the back part of the V visible at the top of a crochet stitch. It is a great tool to flatten the bottom of a sitting toy so that it sits more cleanly and we are less tempted to squash them down to get them to sit properly.

These little dolls are addictive, be prepared to go wild with color changes and inspiration... and please, show me what you come up with and tag me at 12SquaredCreations on Instagram so I can see what you made!

Candy Corn
I used Fair Isle Liberty yarn in tangerine, custard and cloud for the traditional candy.
**Update: I used Herrschners Worsted 8 Halloween Shimmer in ghost, jack-o-lantern and full moon for the traditional candy colors
Round 1: 6 SC in a MR (6) - draw tight and sew in ends after Round 2
Round 2: INC in each around (12)
Round 3: SC and INC and repeat around (18)
Round 4: BLO 2 SC and INC and repeat around (24)
Round 5: 3 SC and INC and repeat around (30)
Round 6: 4 SC and INC and repeat around (36)
Rounds 7-8: SC around (36)
Round 9: C/C 4 SC and DEC and repeat around (30)
Round 10: SC around (30)
Round 11: 3 SC and DEC and repeat around (24)
Round 12: SC around (24)
Sew in your button eyes or place your safety eyes and stitch in his little mouth. Stuff your doll and continue adding stuffing every couple of rows until you're at the second (12) row. I find that he keeps his shape better if I hold him somewhat flat in my hand while stuffing, building the triangle that isn't a cone, if that makes sense. Stuff him full without showing fluff through the stitches or making him round. You will add a bit of stuffing right before you close the top of the candy.
Round 13: 2 SC and DEC and repeat around (18)
Round 14: C/C SC around (18)
Round 15: SC around (18)
Round 16: SC and DEC and repeat around (12)
Round 17: SC around (12)
Round 18: DEC in each around (6)
Round 19: SC around and SL ST the final stitch (6) then stuff a tiny bit more filler in before you stitch closed using FLO and draw the point tight.

I placed the eyes between Rounds 8 and 9 with 9 stitches showing between them. For easy reference, this is the first color change row.

Remember... the sky is your limit... Frankenstein's Monster Candy Corn Style is a thing... and a really cute thing... you can use spike stitches to bring his hair down over the row before in spots so that it looks uneven. You may note I have chocolate cherry candy corn represented above... and my own color combinations because everyone loves zombie corns!

Go crazy and remember to share your results with me and tag me on Instagram!
