Cute Amigurumi Garden Bowl - Beets
Today... BEETS! Not my personal favorite, if truth be told. They're lovely baked with butter... I suppose... but I much prefer them here in my bowl with their friends!
Supplies
Worsted weight yarn - light green and burgundy or beet, if you're that lucky. I used Fair Isle Yarn Liberty Citron and Red Heart Super Saver Accent Cranberry
4.5mm crochet hook
Polyfil stuffing
Safety Eyes - I used 10mm
A yarn or darning needle
Scissors
Stitch Marker
Abbreviations
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
CH = Chain
MR = Magic Ring
INC = Increase
DEC = Decrease
F/O = Finish Off
SL ST = Slip Stitch
Notes
You are working in the round, a stitch marker is very useful.
When crocheting around a chain with a second color you get a cool veining texture that I adore. You will be working in only 1 loop of the chain on one side and 1 loop on the other so that the back loop stays like a vein running the length of the leaf.
Beetroot
Leaves
Begin with the Beet color - make 2 or 3, whichever is to your taste
Row 1: CH 14 for one leaf and 12 for the other, to make them slightly different lengths and leave a long tail for sewing later. F/O
Round 1: Join the green to the 2nd CH from either end. SC in one loop only of first CH, then alternate DC and 2 DC in one loop only of each stitch to the last. Work 5 DC in last loop, turning to work on the other side as well, alternating 2 DC and DC in one loop of the stitch all the way back down. SL ST the last stitch and F/O and sew in your ends.

Round 1: 6 SC in MR (6) - draw tight and sew in your end after Round 2
Round 2: INC in each around (12)
Round 3: SC then INC and repeat around (18)
Round 4: SC around (18)
Round 5: 2 SC then INC and repeat around (24)
Round 6: 3 SC then INC and repeat around (30)
Round 7: 4 SC then INC and repeat around (36)
Rounds 8-13: SC around (36)
Round 14: 4 SC then DEC and repeat around (30)
Round 15: SC around (30)
Tie in the leaves at the top of the beet and sew them in to the inside. Leave the ties as part of your stuffing.
Add the safety eyes between Rounds 13 and 14.
Stuff the top of the beet's head.
Round 16: 3 SC then DEC and repeat around (24)
Round 17: SC around (24)
Round 18: 2 SC then DEC and repeat around (18)
Rounds 19-20: SC around (18)
Stuff the beet as much as you can without spreading the stitches. You want him to be very firm and round with a flatter head.
Round 21: SC then DEC and repeat around (12)
Rounds 22-23: SC around (12)
Round 24: DEC around (6)
Round 25: SC around (6)
Stuff the last little bit as tightly as you can without spreading the stitches.
Round 26: SC then DEC and repeat once (4)
Round 27: DEC once and then SC and CH 4. F/O and trim tail
This cute little guy is just waiting to hang out and play.
:D
The Garden Bowl is starting to get crowded!
